Drama Scholarships

Expectations & Pathways of Drama Scholars

Under the direction of the Assistant Head (Co-Curricular) and Headmaster of St Mary’s Hall, all pupils who hold Drama Scholarships will be expected to demonstrate full participation in the Performing Arts and cultural life of Stonyhurst College or St Mary’s Hall. This includes involvement in internal and external competitions, along with drama workshops and productions.

Drama Scholars will attend all theatre trips organised by the Drama department, free of charge, to develop their understanding of professional performance and staging, and are also entitled to free LAMDA lessons in one discipline to help them hone their craft.

These skills and knowledge are put into practice through participation in the three major College productions, along with opportunities to assist with the rehearsals and direction of other school shows and the running of any plays that our Drama Scholars wish to stage themselves.

We look to our scholars as leaders in drama and musical theatre, with Higher Line (Sixth Form) pupils expected to provide significant directorial support for the Lower Grammar (Year 9) Play in the Easter Term and organisational support of the Great Academies Showcase in the Summer Term.

Lower Line (Years 9-11) Drama Scholars are required to take GCSE Drama as a subject option, and throughout their time at the College these pupils will regularly meet with the Head of Co-Curricular Drama to discuss potential career paths and explore opportunities for further experience in the performing arts world.

**

The progress and conduct of all scholars must remain satisfactory at all times, and continuation of the scholarship into the next academic year depends on continual engagement with the programme in place for them.
