Reuban Strain– Deputy Head Pastoral

As Deputy Head (Pastoral), Reuban Strain is responsible for the care, wellbeing and daily life of more than 300 boarders at Stonyhurst. Having worked at a number of leading boarding schools, he brings extensive experience in building supportive, structured environments where young people feel secure, valued and able to flourish. 

Charles Tansley – Head of Adventure

Charles Tansley is Director of Adventure at Stonyhurst College, with a BSc in Outdoor Education and nearly a decade of international experience leading outdoor programmes. He holds multiple professional qualifications and is currently completing a Master’s in Education, exploring how outdoor learning can inspire lifelong engagement with physical activity and the outdoors.

 

Jan Graffius – Curator of Collections

Jan has curated Stonyhurst’s world-renowned Collections since 2001. A Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, she has led major conservation projects, advised the Archbishop Romero Trust, and worked with institutions including the British Council and the National Trust. Her expertise lies in material culture, religious history, and making heritage accessible to pupils and scholars alike.

Sarah Joseph – Senior Deputy Head (Academic)

Sarah oversees teaching and learning at Stonyhurst as Senior Deputy Head (Academic). She leads curriculum development and academic strategy, ensuring every pupil is challenged and supported to fulfil their potential. Passionate about innovation, Sarah champions intellectual curiosity and global perspectives in education.
