After they had all settled into their rooms, Lower Elements (year 5) headed off to the canal and split into 2 groups for a raft building activity. Using ropes, barrels and wooden posts their team work skills were put to the test. Once they had launched the vessels much fun was had, with everyone falling in and their creations falling apart. After dinner they played an orienteering game called ‘Headhunters’, in beautiful weather which gave way to a thunderstorm. Everyone got absolutely soaked!

The next day the children went on a relaxing canoeing journey up the canal in beautiful sunshine. Only a few capsized! After lunch they took part in some climbing activities – a tree climb, a zip wire and the crate-stacking challenge. These activities were really challenging and the children had to really work as a team in order to succeed.

The next morning they headed out to gain some survival skills, learning how to make a fire using a flint and how to create a shelter. They then got to make their own toast and (the best part..) to toast marshmallows!

Everyone had a brilliant time and gained so many new skills for the great outdoors.
