It was wonderful that so many of you were able to join us for Mass at Great Academies. Particular thanks to Fr Tim for his brilliant homily, reflecting on 'the purpose for which we are made', and to our musicians and singers.
After half-term the cards with the Prayer for Examinations were out in force. It's a beautiful prayer conveying many good messages, so we hope that it was both helpful and reassuring.
Following the efforts of the Grammarians with their circuit-training marathon, our efforts to support the Jesuit schools in Lebanon have continued. Last week, we held a home clothes day to raise funds and a service of prayer. Did you know that Cana, site of the miraculous transformation of water into wine by Jesus, is in Lebanon? As term ends, the Poets are taking the lead with their ball, which will support the same cause, as well as contributing to the restoration of ‘‘The Holy Family with Saints Peter and Paul', attributed to the workshop of Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), which hangs in the Grammar staircase.
The opportunity for service is such an important part of a Stonyhurst education and it is great to see so many giving of themselves - and receiving so much in return. As well as the Poets' efforts via the Arrupe programme within the local community, 18 pupils are travelling to Zimbabwe with Miss Taylor, Mr McGarvey and Mrs Jones to work with the Tag Rugby trust, and a number of Higher Line pupils will be taking part in the annual Lourdes pilgrimage with many OS and friends of Stonyhurst.
Finally, congratulations to the Lower Line pupils who have recently completed their Faith in Action Bronze and Silver awards!
Have a blessed and refreshing summer!
