Chaplaincy in the Easter Term

It has been another busy half term for Chaplaincy, with pupils across the College taking part in formation, prayer and social justice co-curriculars.

Our LG Faith in Action Bronze pupils led a deeply thought-provoking Stations of the Cross around the College grounds, using CAFOD’s reflections based on Pope Francis’ teachings about Caring for our Common Home. Thanks to generosity of LG parents, they raised over £200 for CAFOD’s Lenten appeal.

Our Grammar Faith in Action pupils focused on Fairtarde this half term and held a highly successful interline quiz, with participants testing their knowledge on the subject – and even testing some Fairtrade chocolate too!

Our Syntax Faith in Action pupils, along with two Poets, have been taking a leading role in the College’s response to the crisis in Ukraine. The Poets organised a Home Clothes Day, raising over £2,000 thanks to pupil, staff and parent donations. Our Faith in Action pupils had an overwhelming response to their request to the community for 12 hours of continuous prayer for those affected by the crisis. Pupils, staff, governors and parents signed up to take 10 minutes of prayer, covering the whole of Saturday 26th March. Thank you to everyone involved for your prayers and generous donations.

Arrupe pupils have been involved in a range of projects including making English learning videos for refugee children in Kenya via the Xavier Project, raising money for elderly and isolated people in Malawi, holding a Solidarity Walk to raise awareness on the work of Jesuit Missions and exploring the topic of sustainability in business.

Our Confirmation Candidates are approaching the end of their course, gearing up to receive the Sacrament in May. They will be choosing their Saint’s name and sponsor over the holidays. We wish them well in their final stages of preparation.

A group of Higher Line pupils had a wonderful day out at Leeds Trinity University, joining with other young people for a Youth2000 Retreat Day. They heard from speakers including NET Ministries and Joel’s bar as well as getting to meet other young people who are engaged with their Faith.

The term ended in usual way, with the whole school Passion Service. The Service took the form of Tenebrae, with pupils from across the Playrooms reading the Passion Narrative, interspersed with choral pieces and congregational hymns. If you did not have a chance to attend, you can watch the Service here: https://youtu.be/zJtttOcU_6o

Thank you to all pupils and parents who have helped to make it another wonderful term for Chaplaincy.
