It’s been a busy start to the cricket season for our teams
Last week there were Lancashire Cup matches for our Lower Line teams.
LG played against Canon Slade in the U14 Lancashire Cup. Stonyhurst lost the toss and were put into bat. After an early loss of wickets, pace was injected through the middle order with Coby scoring a notable 28. Ably supported by contributions all round, LG posted a score of 117-5 off our 20 overs. In response, the bowling was accurate and applied constant pressure. Leighton was outstanding with a 5-wicket haul and, supported by some athletic work in the field from George and Coby with both claiming some excellent run outs,LG took all ten wickets for 40 runs in response.
The U15 won in their Lancashire Cup match by 10 wickets away against Arch Bishop Temple. ABT scored 76-7 and Ben and Tom scored 31no and 21no respectively to ease Stonyhurst to victory.
In our block fixtures last Saturday, the U14, U15 and 1st XI all played against Rossall School.
The U14s won by 33 runs. Stonyhurst scored 140-7 from their 20 overs. In reply Rossall we’re 107 all out.
In the U15 match, Rossall scored 138-4 in their 20 overs. In reply, Grammar made 91-7, and lost by 47 runs. Taylor scored 37 and she was voted Player of the Match. Mr Binham reports that her 6 over deep square leg was definitively worth seeing; as was Piers stunning catch in the deep.
The 1st XI made it two wins out of two as they won at home on The Oval. Congratulations to opening batsman, George, who made his first ever half century.
