The first ski trip since December 2019 did not disappoint, with our 73 Rhetoricians and 7 staff enjoying the trip of a lifetime during the Christmas holidays, in the remarkable and idyllic surroundings of the Panorama Mountain Resort in British Columbia, Canada.
With Europe struggling for snow over the winter weeks, both our beginners and experts thrived for 5 days in perfect snow-sure conditions, with many of the days being blue sky days. As is always the case, the ski trip is for everyone, with nearly 20 of the party were complete beginners, and close to 25 being quite exceptional skiers. Regardless of ability, the queues for the slopes were non-existent, ski in-ski out facilities were enjoyed in a brand-new hotel which was just 50 metres from the slopes, and in the evening the pupils (and staff!) enjoyed some team building activities, campfires and smores, and the always popular, open-air Panorama hot springs. Plus, the now world famous ‘Fancy Dress Competition’ lit up the resort with 80 Stonyhurst pupils and staff dressed to impress on the slopes.
My thanks to each and every Rhetorician who was on the trip. Their behaviour was impeccable from start to finish and they were wonderful company to be around. A huge thank you must also be given Mrs Marshall, Mrs Hargreaves, Miss Walsh, Mrs Wright, Mr Hardcastle and Mr Lightbown, who were so generous in giving up their time over the Christmas holidays.
