Senior Cricket | 17/05/2023

It was a fun and entertaining day of Senior Cricket at both ends of the ability spectrum on Wednesday.

The 1st XI played against a Lancaster RGS XI at home. LRGS posted 127-5 from their 20 overs. Stonyhurst chased hard but some late wickets saw them fall just 17 runs shy of their target on 110-8.

Away from home, a slightly inexperienced and new Stonyhurst XI travelled to AKS Lytham. 12 boys who were keen to play, but for whom many had not played before or had not not took part in cricket since LG and GR, volunteered to take on a far more experienced AKS XI.

The conditions were gorgeous at AKS, and the match was played in a fantastic spirit, with both teams contributing to a wonderful and entertaining spectacle.

AKS batted first and made 148-3 in their 20 overs. Dan, James and Tom bowled with great enthusiasm, with Inigo, Nikolai, and Billy in particularly impressive form. Noah was exceptional behind the stumps, with only 1 bye against him in the 20 overs, and the catches by Sam and Nikolai would have graced any 1st XI match.

Stonyhurst managed 79-7 in reply, but against genuine A bowlers, this was a remarkable feat. They batted every ball of their 20 overs and Inigo deserves a special mention for his top score of 22no.

A fabulous afternoon, which was very much epitomised by a Quant Je Puis attitude, and one which ended with 12 boys who had developed a new found love for cricket.
