Stonyhurst pupils are today celebrating another year of exceptional results across A levels, CTECH and the International Baccalaureate Diploma. This follows last month’s impressive IB performance, underlining the College’s academic strength across multiple pathways.
A levels
- A level grades are excellent
- 19% of grades are A* (national average 9.4%)
- 54% of grades are A*/A (national average 28%)
- 81% of grades are A*/B (national average 55.2%)
- 91% of grades are A*/C (national average 77.9%
- 80% of pupils have received a place at their first-choice university
- 91% of pupils received either their Firm or Insurance university
These headline figures reflect the strength of performance across a wide range of subjects. Computer Science and Classical Civilisation saw every entry awarded A* or A. Further Maths pupils achieved 83% A*/A and 100% A*/B, while English Literature delivered 78% A*/A and 94% A*/B. Several subjects saw 100% of all entries achieve A*/B, including Drama, Italian, and Polish. Business and Economics achieved 95% and 94% A*/B respectively, while History reached 91% A*/B and Chemistry 89%. Both Art pathways were equally impressive, with 83% A*/B in Photography and 80% in Fine Art. Geography also delivered a strong outcome, with 81% of pupils achieving A* to B.
CTECH
- CTECH grades in sport and business are outstanding
- 90% of pupils achieved the top grade of D*D* (Distinction) across both subjects (equivalent to A*A* UCAS points) (national average 11%)
- 100% of pupils achieved D*D or higher (national average 19.1%)
The results achieved by our pupils this year represent outstanding outcomes across both academic and vocational pathways, placing them among the highest-performing students nationally. The combined performance in A Levels and CTEC qualifications reflects exceptional attainment and academic depth. Over one in five grades awarded were at the highest level, equivalent to an A* (21%), while more than half of all entries achieved A* or A (54%), and over four in five were graded A* to B (81%). Truly phenomenal results.
Among pupils taking either A Levels or CTEC qualifications, the average UCAS points per pupil was 131. This is equivalent to a grade profile above ABB at A Level, and close to AAB, demonstrating both the strength and consistency of academic achievement across the entire cohort.
A significant proportion of these pupils secured the highest possible outcomes. Nearly half of the cohort (47%) achieved the equivalent of AAA or better at A Level, with 38% attaining A*AA or higher, 30% reaching A*A*A or above, and an amazing 25% achieving the equivalent a perfect A*A*A* at A Level.
International Baccalaureate Diploma
- Stonyhurst has continued to outperform the global average of 30, with our average point score of 33
- Over 20% of pupils achieved 36+ points, broadly equivalent to 3As at A level
- The top points score was 42, a feat achieved by less than 4% of pupils worldwide, and is equivalent to 4 A*s at A level
- 97% pass rate (increase of 9% on 2024).

Our IB subject outcomes were exceptional across the board. Several subjects achieved a flawless record, with 100% of pupils in HL English B, SL Economics, HL German B, SL Spanish Ab Initio, HL Economics, and SL Business securing top grades of 7 or 6.
