Tips on settling into a UK boarding school by Mr Dewer

Preparation for boarding life begins at our interviews, our staff discuss all aspects of school life with parents and pupils.  Our aim is to develop a pupil’s academic and extra-curricular abilities, but also to teach them fundamental Christian values such as care and compassion.

Where possible we offer tours and open days to prospective families allowing them to see the College, meet staff and understand what opportunities our Jesuit education can provide. On arrival day, parents and pupils are invited to a reception with our leadership team and are then introduced to pastoral staff who discuss individual needs with parents and settle boarders into their new rooms.  There is a wide range of activities for pupils, ranging from traditional English sports to fishing, photography and even building drones.

On most days the school will offer between 30 to 60 extra-curricular activities.  Weekly Inter-house competitions keep our school spirit alive, and within our first few weeks of arriving at school our boarders are treated to; cinema trips, shopping expeditions, paintball, a karaoke night and house quiz evening.  All of this is underpinned by welcoming academic and pastoral staff who are keen to help and listen while setting clear expectations and boundaries. All of this helps pupils to feel safe, build friendships and settle into boarding life.

For those considering boarding; you have a wonderful opportunity to attend a boarding school in the UK. Do your best to make the most of all the activities, knowledge and experiences that are available to you.  Doing so will enable you to create memories that stay with you throughout your lifetime.
