Boarding at Stonyhurst - a unique experience by Mr Lightbown

Mr Mike Lightbown, Assistant Houseparent for Grammar Boys, talks about what makes boarding at Stonyhurst such a special experience.

There is much that makes boarding at Stonyhurst a special and unique experience. On a daily basis, the houseparents and boarding staff demonstrate their care and commitment to all the children in their care; all are open and approachable and communication between Stonyhurst and home is encouraged. What truly makes Stonyhurst unique is the boarding structure; with the horizontal houses the children are able to make broad friendship groups and because of the Playroom system, the interaction between boarding and day pupils is seamless. This creates great friendships and very tight bonds are formed throughout every Playroom.

Ultimately this is for me what makes Stonyhurst such a special place. Houseparents and staff are undoubtedly superb but, it is the friendships made that help the children settle in and thrive. The friendships made here last a lifetime because come rain or shine, it is our friends and shared experiences that make life and learning so enjoyable and at Stonyhurst this is evident at every turn. At Stonyhurst we all look out for each other.
