Sport enhances academic achievement by strengthening character, developing new skills and challenging students to always do their best.
See our sporting success
All pupils take part in the team and individual sports which are an essential component of Stonyhurst life. There is inter-line (house) competition in team sports, where teamwork and determination is nurtured and everyone competes in swimming and athletics.
With a long history of sporting success, Stonyhurst students have progressed to professional careers and we can boast several international sports people among our alumni.
Representative sport begins in St Mary’s Hall at Under 9 with local and national fixtures, tournaments and regular sports tours which see girls compete in hockey, netball and rounders, boys in rugby and cricket.
Our facilities include a nine hole golf course, a swimming pool, an all weather pitch, tennis and squash courts, a tennis dome, a sports hall and indoor shooting range. Students enjoy football, fencing, judo, gymnastics, water polo and more in the beautiful setting of the Stonyhurst estate.
