Tennis

The Tennis Academy at Stonyhurst has fantastic facilities, which provide wonderful spaces for the 150+ pupils enrolled in the Stonyhurst Tennis Academy to play and practice tennis. Whether they play on one of the seven outdoor courts, surrounded by the beautiful grounds and historic buildings or venture into the modern indoor tennis court providing a place to play tennis all year-round.

Accreditations and Achievements

The Stonyhurst Tennis Academy and its members have received/achieved a number of amazing awards, including:

  • Lawn Tennis Registered Centre – awarded in November 2018
  • Stonyhurst and SMH became members of the Tennis Foundation – November 2018
  • Head Tennis UK agreement was confirmed – September 2018
  • 8 Stonyhurst College students became Tennis Leaders, mentored by our Director of Tennis. These College students will be able to support the academy programme gaining valuable teaching experience along the way.

 

Competitions

The pupils in the Stonyhurst Tennis Academy take part in a number of matches, events and competitions, including:

  • National Championships Glanville Cup
  • National Championships Aberdare Cup
  • National League Championships in the North Region
  • Road to Wimbledon Event
  • IAPS
  • Various friendly matches

 

Tennis Camp

The Stonyhurst Tennis Academy holds tennis camps during the half terms breaks and school holidays. The tennis camps, organised by our Director of Tennis (and former professional tennis player), David Shaw, provide tennis training courses to Stonyhurst and SMH pupils and to children from the wider community. The Director of Tennis is assisted by Liz Thomas, a Level 4 LTA Sennior Performance Tennis Coach and former tennis professional. Together they work hard to encourage all those attending the tennis camps to learn new skills whilst also improving their existing ones.
