Boys and Girls for Others
The phrase ‘Men and Women for Others’ is rooted in the spirituality of St Ignatius, founder of the Jesuits. Christ invites all of us into his work of healing the world; because this work begins now, we use instead, ‘Boys and Girls for Others’.
At St Mary’s Hall we provide opportunities for children to help those around them. This may take the form of raising awareness of social justice issues with visits and workshops from Jesuit Missions, Aid to the Church in Need or CAFOD. The children also take a lead in fundraising to support of a number of charities, at local, national and international level.
Each week pupils speak via a video link with refugee children in Uganda as part of the Xavier Project, which was started by a former Stonyhurst pupil.
We are committed to Care for our Common Home as we are called to be good stewards of our planet and its resources. Our Gardening and Environmental groups take part in local and international initiatives.
Welcoming pupils from Acorns Special School, Preston (for children with profound physical and learning disabilities) and meeting the elderly in the local community are regular opportunities to give service to others.
