The Performing Arts continue to be one of the brightest jewels in our crown at St Mary’s Hall. Children follow a varied programme in their weekly drama lesson, including Mime, Improvisation, Forum Theatre, Shakespeare, Script work and Devising. Each child, from our youngest in the Pre-Prep to our Year 8 pupils, gets the opportunity to be involved and have a chance to shine. Drama helps them to grow in confidence, understand the art of theatre and learn how to perform in front of an audience.
Each age group is involved in regular productions which encourage the pupils to develop both creative and team-working skills. Rehearsals are carefully directed and guided, and pupils are given opportunities to take on new challenges. Older pupils provide the technical support for all performances within the theatre, mastering the use of our state-of-the-art sound and lighting system.
The LAMDA programme is thriving and our intake numbers are the highest on record. To enable us to provide tuition to our enthusiastic cohort, we have four independent teachers providing tuition in Verse & Prose, Acting and Musical Theatre. We are continuing to celebrate our fifth year of a 100% pass rate, with some exceptionally high marks in examinations taken each term.
