The bestowal of a scholarship at Stonyhurst carries with it privilege and responsibility.
Scholarships are the highest awards offered by Stonyhurst and are granted at the discretion of the Headmaster.
Stonyhurst Scholarships are won on the basis of merit and are available to both boarding and day pupils. The number and size of scholarships is at the discretion of the headmaster. The bestowal of any scholarship carries with it privilege and responsibility. Every scholar is expected to set an example to other pupils in their conduct and approach to study, and to participate fully in the life of Stonyhurst. The tenure of a scholarship is intended to be for the duration of the holder’s education at Stonyhurst, provided that the holder’s academic progress and general conduct remain satisfactory and that the holder continues enthusiastically to fulfil the obligations associated with the scholarship, evidenced in an annual review of progress and contribution.
All external scholarship candidates need to have registered for a place at Stonyhurst.
The selection of internal candidates to sit for scholarship examinations is made only on the recommendation of relevant academic staff. More information, including details of criteria, how to apply and deadlines, can be found by downloading the scholarships brochure below.
Please note that the allocation of a bursary is not linked to a scholarship application, but a good performance in the scholarship examinations will make a significant positive contribution to a bursarial application.
