The Dance provision at Stonyhurst is supplied by Phoenix Dance Academy Ltd .We offer a range of classes which include the genres of: Ballet (RAD), Tap (ISTD), Modern (ISTD), Contemporary, Street Dance, DDMIX and Arts Award (Trinity College – London). These lessons are available for children as young as 3 years up to Adults. Whether you want to take dance exams or just want to dance for fun then we should have a lesson that will suit you.

Dance is led by an experienced team of dance instructors who will nurture and coach the development of each individual according to the needs and ability of the student dancer.

We run termly Royal Academy of Dance Ballet exams and Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing Modern and Tap exams. These exams are taken when the teacher feels the individual students are ready. In the run up to exam sessions we hold coaching classes.

We perform a minimum of one annual performance per year. Rehearsals take place in class and as extra rehearsals. All dance students take part in our annual performance. There are various other performance opportunities throughout the year for our Dance students.

We arrange several Theatre trips throughout the academic year to see a variety of genres. These are usually North West based but occasionally day trips to London are arranged. Each year we spend a day with a Ballet company experiencing their classes and taking part in creative workshops before watching a performance. These full day workshops are a great incite into a Ballet company and the life of a Dancer.

We also hold workshops of different genres at Stonyhurst with guest choreographers/teachers. These are a great way of experiencing new styles for all our dancers.

Royal Ballet Associates

The Royal Ballet runs an associate program which we like our students who show an interest to audition for. The Associate Programme nurtures young, talented students between the ages of eight and 18 years in pursuit of excellence in pre-vocational classical ballet training.

The course is designed to augment an individual’s current training while introducing them to The Royal Ballet School’s System of Training, alongside other gifted children who aspire to a career in dance. Pupils continue to study with their regular dance teacher in addition to their Associate classes.
