Duke of Edinburgh's Award | Posted 11.05.2016

The end of the Easter term saw 9 teams of Poets (60 students in year 12) head out to Snowdonia to tackle their gold practice expedition. For about half the students, this was their first experience of D of E, and the previous weeks had seen them undergo plenty of training, including developing their navigation skills in the countryside around College and setting up an impromptu campsite outside the Chemistry department! The March weather was chilly and showery, but good teamwork and positive attitudes made for a highly successful expedition.

May brought the Bronze expeditions. The practice saw really unfriendly Lancashire weather: the campsite turned to a sea of mud and the pupils had to show real perseverance as they learned navigation skills in the pouring rain. However, the sun came out for the final hours of the expedition.

The number of completed awards is increasing by the day. The total currently stands at:

Bronze – 55

Silver  – 41

Gold – 32
