Stonyhurst St Mary’s Hall is a co-educational Preparatory school in the Jesuit tradition. One third of our pupils board. Approximately two thirds belong to the Catholic Church and we welcome pupils of all faiths.
Pupils can join Stonyhurst St Mary’s Hall in all years from Nursery to Year 8. We request that you provide us with your son or daughter’s two most recent school reports and a reference from their existing school.
We accept pupils with little or no English language skills, subject to the same requirements, confident that they will quickly become fluent under our expert EAL provision.
We ask English-speaking pupils joining us in Figures (year 7, age 11+) to sit an entrance exam, either at Stonyhurst or under agreed alternative supervision (such as your child’s current school), which may result in a scholarship award if your child performs exceptionally well. Please read our scholarship section and contact the Admissions Office if you need more information. Wherever your child sits the exam, it must be completed in timed conditions to ensure fairness and accuracy.
We use exam results, reports and references to understand your child’s unique talents and abilities and how we can best help them to achieve their full potential.
