Stonyhurst students delight in a setting which, even as sixth formers, they happily compare to a certain magical fictional institution. For younger pupils, as well as the wonderful culture and heritage of the Stonyhurst estate, St Mary’s Hall offers wide range of facilities specifically developed to enhance their childhood fun as well as academic, spiritual and emotional development.

  • Spiritual

Boarders and many of our day pupils and their families enjoy weekly Mass in the beautiful St. Peter’s Church, completed in 1835, together with the rest of the Stonyhurst Community.

  • Sports

St Mary’s Hall has its own fully-equipped sports hall, outside tennis and netball courts, rugby, cricket, rounders and athletics fields.  It also shares Stonyhurst’s water-based Astroturf pitch, heated indoor swimming pool, 9-hole golf course and extensive grounds.

  • Art & Design

Our art studio is the starting place for pupils to develop their appreciation and enjoyment of art, working with paint, clay, textiles and ceramics. Pupils also explore design and technology and enjoy visits to gallery exhibitions.

  • Music

Music plays a central role in the life of Saint Mary’s Hall, with three quarters of pupils receiving individual music tuition and opportunities for all of our pupils to participate in choirs, bands and orchestras, including international tours as part of wider College groups.

  • Dance

Our popular, co-curricular dance options include fun courses in Zumba and Salsa, as well as opportunities to study the Royal Academy Dance Syllabus for classical ballet and to take examinations and win awards in tap dancing, jazz and contemporary dance.

  • Theatre

Our very own Centenaries Theatre is in use every day and our pupils participate enthusiastically, in front of and behind the scenes, in our regular music, dance and drama productions, including whole school musicals and even an annual Year 8 Shakespeare performance.

  • History

The Stonyhurst estate offers St Mary’s Hall pupils an inspiring historic environment, access to fascinating historical collections and archives and even the First Folio of William Shakespeare which we hope will inspire a lifelong love of our heritage.

  • Diversity

As a Jesuit school, our student body has always reflected a truly global community.  We offer expert EAL support to pupils who join us with limited English language skills. With a global outlook too, all our pupils learn French, Spanish and, from year 7, Latin.
