The Stonyhurst 1st XI have played 6 matches, won 5 and drawn 1 so far this season. Mr Thomas reports on the latest results:

Wednesday, May 11th

1st XI vs MCC

MCC 174 for 4 declared

In reply, after a spirited 45 from skipper Rhys Morgan, there was a spectacular collapse to 90 for 8 and the game apparently lost— or was it? Unimaginable resolve saw Ed Holmes 42 deliveries for 5, Nathan Miller 38 deliveries for 4 not out, and Aiden Scott 10 deliveries for 4 not out, achieving the most exciting draw ever, and thereby keeping this term’s unbeaten record intact!

Stonyhurst 104 for 9  – MATCH DRAWN

It was a pleasure to award the Captain, Rhys Morgan, his half colours at the lunch break.

Saturday May 14th

1st XI vs Kirkham Grammar

Kirkham 217 all out in 45 overs

A daunting total, restricted mainly by an excellent 5 for 47 bowling spell from the  leading wicket taker, and left-arm spinner, Arthur Chitnis.

In reply, we got off to a slow start in the face of some fine bowling and at one stage the run- rate required was over 7 an over. However a really solid 60 from Harry Bashall and a spectacular 104 not out off just 83 balls from Josh Katz saw Stonyhurst home to a splendid 7 wicket victory in front of an enthralled loyal crowd who for the second time in a week stayed fixed to the spot!!

Vice Captain Josh Katz, who was awarded his half colours a few weeks earlier, achieved his full colours after this match-winning performance, which also included 2 wickets for his leg spin bowling

Record so far: played 6, won 5, drawn 1
