Safeguarding

Stonyhurst understands, accepts and believes that every member of our school community places safeguarding children and young people at risk at the heart of all they do.

Stonyhurst's policy reflects our Jesuit philosophy, Magis. We seek to do more for Christ in serving and protecting the most vulnerable within our community. Therefore, everyone who comes into contact with children and young people has a role to play. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child. We recognise that no single practitioner/agency can have a full picture of a child’s needs and circumstances. If children and families are to receive the right help at the right time, everyone who comes into contact with them has a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information and taking prompt action. The Safeguarding team works closely with local, national and international safeguarding partners to offer advice and support to the wider Stonyhurst community.

Operation Encompass Logo

Stonyhurst is proud to be an Operation Encompass school which is an early intervention safeguarding partnership supporting children and young people who may have been exposed to domestic abuse.  It is a system which provides an early notification to key adults within a school when a pupil may have been affected by domestic abuse. In response to this notification, schools are able to ensure the appropriate support is available for that child.

Stonyhurst is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of all students and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We strive to ensure that consistent and effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, pupils and staff at school.  We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. All school staff are trained in Child Protection, and children are made aware of the adults they can talk to if they have any concerns. Staff are trained to look out for signs of physical/emotional harm or neglect and are required to report these to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

The procedures which we follow have been laid down by the Lancashire Children Safeguarding Assurance Partnership.

The school adheres to the following three DFE safeguarding documents:

LCC SEND HELPLINE – 01772 533900

Getting the right information and support for children and young people with SEND can be frustrating for families, schools and support services. As requests for statutory assessment and numbers of EHC plans issued continue to

increase, so does demand for information and support from LCC’s SEND Teams. In response, a SEND helpline has been set up with a view to improving communication with families and key partners. This has already been trialled successfully with schools over recent weeks, and the SEND Helpline has now gone live for parent carers and anyone who supports CYP with SEND. Lines are open 9:00-5:00 Mon-Fri.
