When twilight falls, the magic begins...
At Stonyhurst College, tailored boarding offers a unique opportunity for pupils to fully immerse themselves in school life while still enjoying family time on weekends.
Alongside the day benefits of a rigorous academic curriculum and wide-ranging activities, flexi, occasional and weekly boarders experience even more by taking part in additional evening societies, social events, and structured study sessions.
This extended time at school allows for deeper connections with peers from around the globe and the chance to enjoy the magical moments that happen beyond the regular school day.

Weekly boarding has not only improved my friendships that I already had, but it has also given me the opportunity to meet more people from different countries and mix with different year groups or people you wouldn't usually interact with. I feel like this wouldn't have been possible for me without boarding during the week.

Are you a current day pupil or do you live locally?
Many pupils who live a short distance away from Stonyhurst have chosen to transition from day to weekly boarding because they felt they were missing out on so many other available opportunities.
Boarding allows pupils to become more independent and immersed in a truly unique community, while eliminating daily commutes. A day pupil living just 30 minutes from the school, for example, would save six hours each week that could be spent socialising with friends, studying, or resting - time that busy parents also regain.
Stonyhurst offers day pupils the chance to experience three complementary nights of boarding per year, providing a perfect opportunity to enjoy those special moments that happen after the end of the regular school day.
On weekends, we usually go out for dinner so I can catch up with my family and talk about everything that's happened during the week.
It feels more special than seeing them every day, and I truly value our time together. It makes our moments more meaningful.

"Excellent in All Areas"
In the most recent full Inspection Report by the ISI, Stonyhurst was rated "Excellent in All Areas", with pastoral support in particular rated as outstanding
The report highlighted that "pupils are highly reflective as individuals and display a level of maturity beyond their years," and praised their "highly developed sense of social awareness" and passion for making a difference. Pupils "take initiative in their learning, remain highly focused in their studies," and "speak with eloquence when addressing others." It also noted that pupils have "a strong appreciation for the multi-cultural nature and diversity of the school community."
Boarders, in particular, shared that "daily routines help them develop self-discipline and personal organisation skills" and that "living away from home has made them more resilient." They expressed that "living and working with others has a positive influence on their social development." Additionally, boarders understand that "non-materialistic aspects of life, such as friendship and community, bring a sense of belonging and camaraderie, especially within the boarding houses."
“The social side of boarding is also hugely important to pupils. They make friendships that last a lifetime and have friends from all over the world. There is a real international, global feel to the school, which pupils really enjoy. There were three pupils last summer who spent two weeks at each of their family homes on the Scottish island of Bute, in Madrid, and in Sweden.
