The Stonyhurst Model United Nations society took part in their first inter-schools conference at Magdalen College School, Oxford at the weekend.  Over 300 pupils from 23 schools, from around the country joined to take part in two full days of lively and well informed debate.  The Stonyhurst team were representing the US and the Ukraine, and had to research their country positions on a variety of global issues, as well as write resolutions, argue their case and persuade other delegates to back their position.  Highlights from the weekend included the special general assembly debate on Sunday, with our pupils having to react to rapidly changing global running events involving Iran and the US, as well as an attempted coup of the Security Council on Saturday afternoon!   We were delighted to see Frederik, from Poetry (year 12), win Highly Commended Delegate for his part in the Politics Committee, and Eric, from Grammar (Year 10), win Best Junior Delegate for his role in the Historical Committee. Well done to the whole team, and thanks to Miss Klasan and Mrs Kirkby for accompanying the pupils for the weekend.
