Stonyhurst hosts the HMC tournament

Stonyhurst hosted the annual HMC tournament on Saturday October 5th and, with strong U15 squads, the day looked promising. The U15A first fixture was against the Stonyhurst U15B which gave both teams a chance to relax and get rid of any pre-tournament nerves.

With strong performances against Kings Macclesfield, Liverpool and Stockport the U15A team found themselves at the top of the leader board at mid-day. With tough games coming up the girls were looking stronger and more determined to stay there. The squad was able to be rotated throughout the day due to great individual performances. The next game was against Cheadle School; the girls knew this would be one of the hardest games of the tournament. Both teams had not lost so far and Stonyhurst were only ahead on goal difference.

The game did not disappoint and was goal for goal throughout. Zebe Graham gave a performance of a lifetime in the attacking third and the defensive unit showed great determination, especially Alice Keunen in the defending circle, taking many interceptions. The girls won 11-9 taking control in the final few minutes to take the lead. Stonyhurst’s last game against Grange School was the final hurdle for the girls as they were 18 minutes away from becoming champions. With a great team performance and a final push to the whistle the girls won 11-6 making them the winners of the HMC. The support and encouragement on the side-lines throughout the whole day was fantastic and the girls showed great attitude on the court; this was a thoroughly deserved victory for Stonyhurst.
