Stonyhurst lights up its facade in support of Red Wednesday

Today Wednesday 23rd November, Aid to the Church in Need is launching ‘Red Wednesday’. This day will honour those killed in acts of religious hatred and will be an expression of solidarity with millions of people around the globe who are targeted for their beliefs and live in fear.

Red Wednesday will bring together people of different faith communities in the UK in a positive and united vision of religious belief which upholds the right of the individual to follow their faith and their conscience, promotes respect for those of other faith traditions, condemns violence carried out in the name of religion and commits to helping victims of persecution.

In partnership with ACN, on the evening of Red Wednesday, Westminster Abbey and Westminster Cathedral and many other churches and places of worship around the UK will light up their iconic facades in red. Stonyhurst is, therefore, taking part in this event and prayers will be said in assemblies on this day to remember those who suffer injustice and risk their lives for their faith. With Campion Day just around the corner, this is a sober reminder of the price of those in our Jesuit history who gave their lives that we might express the Catholic faith of the College in freedom today.
