A Level
Stonyhurst is a wonderful place to study A levels. Not only are the teachers fantastic in their subjects, they are helpful and supportive. It’s a great learning environment and a great place beyond the classroom.

The A level pathway
Years 12 and 13 students (known as 'Higher Line' at Stonyhurst) will choose three or four A level subjects and are also given the opportunity to choose an additional qualification, such as an EPQ, to complement and offer breadth to their A level studies.
Why choose A levels?
If you have a clear preference for certain subjects and know exactly where your interests lie, A Levels provide an excellent opportunity to study fewer subjects in detail. A Levels are traditional, academic qualifications, highly valued by universities and employers alike. We offer a range of A level subjects, most of which are regarded as facilitating subjects for entrance to the UK’s most prestigious universities.
Did you know we also offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma as an alternative study pathway to A levels? The IBDP is specifically designed as a broad curriculum to allow for greater choice across multiple subjects, which is ideal for those who are unsure at age 16 what to study after Sixth Form.
