The Stonyhurst robotics team have won the Soccer competition in the National Robotics Championships, held at Princethorpe College. Their victory qualifies them to represent the UK in the World Championships in Brazil this summer.

After an inauspicious start, with defeat by St Anselm’s and a draw against Princethorpe, Anthony and William did some effective troubleshooting over lunch which drastically improved the robots’ performance. The team then won their matches against Prenton and Calday Grange.

With a strong start in the final against St Anselms, and 6-1 up at half time, talk of the mercy rule came into play! This seemed to spur on the opposition, who brought the match back to 6-5 with one minute to go. But William ‘s excellently programmed defender kept them at bay and we won. After a team hug the trophy was presented with a visible mix of happiness and disappointment by Mr Greg Hunter, Assistant Headmaster at Princethorpe, former Stonyhurst playroom master and physicist!
