Stonyhurst’s first Bursary Ball, held recently at Stanley House Hotel and Spa, was a resounding success, raising £51,000 for our bursary fund. We would like to thank the Bursary Ball Committee, and everyone who has helped by donating prizes for the ball. It was an excellent event, and Paul Dobie and his band got everyone dancing until the early hours – a great time was had by all!

Patrick Hoffmann (OS ‘11), who was the recipient of a bursary, explained how important it was to him and his family to have had the opportunity to come to Stonyhurst.  He spoke about his time at the College, the friends he made, and the valuable lessons he learned here, explaining how Stonyhurst encourages students to ‘let their light shine’ and how the College raised his own expectations of himself.  His moving and powerful speech received a standing ovation.

Patrick closed his speech with the following words:

“And so my question to you is this: can you imagine anything more worthwhile than creating this opportunity for someone who is ready to grasp it, with both hands, and turn it into the experience of a lifetime? Someone who, thanks to you, can discover their gift to the world? Can you imagine any more rewarding investment?”
